October is a month that photographers and clients alike eagerly await! This October was especially busy with a variety of sessions, from weddings and family portraits to graduation shoots. Yet, engagement sessions stood out as the most popular, drawing couples who wanted to capture their love amid the stunning fall colours!
Spending time outdoors with clients, exploring beautiful locations, and sharing stories about upcoming weddings made this season truly special! Many of these couples will be part of my 2026 journey, which feels exciting since I will also be getting married that summer! Talking about wedding plans with clients adds a personal touch to every session, and I look forward to sharing some of my own wedding details when the time is right!
If you’re curious about the best spots for fall photos near Guelph, keep reading. I’ll take you through some of my favourite locations that offer natural beauty and unique backdrops for outdoor photography.

Waterpark Acres
Just outside Fergus, my parents’ hobby farm or also known as Waterpark Acres, is a hidden gem for fall photos. The farm offers a rustic charm with open fields, wooden fences, a pond, bridge, and mature trees with different coloured leaves throughout the property. Not to mention the uniqueness that it offers with the exotic animals that might be in the background! On your visit here you will see lemurs, monkeys, kangaroos, birds and other creatures!
This location works well for couples who want a relaxed, countryside vibe. The mix of open spaces and cozy corners allows for a variety of shots, from wide landscape views to intimate close-ups around the pond. It’s also a great spot for families who want a casual, natural setting for their portraits.

The Arboretum
The Arboretum in Guelph is a classic choice for fall photography. Its diverse collection of trees and plants means you get a rich palette of colours and textures. Walking paths wind through the area, offering many spots to pause and capture moments.
One of the highlights here is the mix of dense woods, gorgeous paths and open meadows. This contrast lets photographers play with light and shadow, creating dynamic images. The Arboretum also has benches, gardens, bridges, and small water features that add interest to the background!

Rockwood Conservation Area
Rockwood Conservation Area is another favourite for fall sessions. The rocky cliffs, flowing river, and wooded trails provide a dramatic setting that stands out from typical park scenes. The fall colours here are especially vivid, reflecting off the water and adding depth to photos.
Couples who enjoy a bit of adventure appreciate this location. It offers opportunities for walking shots, seated poses on rocks, and playful moments by the water. The natural elements make every photo feel authentic and full of life.
There is a fee to visit here, but I promise it is worth it!

Apple Orchards
For a different kind of fall backdrop, Apple Orchards combine rustic charm with a lively atmosphere. The orchard setting, wooden barrels, straw bales and lines of trees create a cozy, inviting scene. This spot is perfect for couples who want a bit of personality and warmth in their photos.
The orchard rows lined with apple trees offer a stunning natural frame! Sessions here often include candid moments of couples enjoying the setting, which brings out genuine smiles and laughter.
Orchards that I loved photographing at this year:
West Avenue Cider - Hamilton
The Apple Orchard - Hamilton
Shuh Orchards - West Montrose

Huron Natural Area in Kitchener
A short drive from Guelph, Huron Natural Area in Kitchener is a peaceful spot with trails, wetlands, boardwalks and forested areas. The fall colours here are rich and varied, with yellows, reds, and browns blending beautifully. This location suits anyone who prefers a quiet, natural environment.

Floradale Dam and Park
Just outside of Elmira, Floradale Dam and Park is a lesser-known location that offers unique water features and open green spaces. The flowing water provides interesting visual elements at different points along the trail.
The park’s open areas are great for playful, candid moments, making it a versatile choice for couples and families alike!

Guelph University Campus
The Guelph University campus surprises many with its beautiful fall scenery. The mix of historic buildings, beautiful doors, manicured lawns, and mature trees creates a sophisticated yet natural backdrop.
This location works well for anyone who wants a blend of urban and natural elements. The campus paths lined with colourful trees offer classic fall shots, while the architecture adds structure and interest.

Farmer’s Fields
Finally, a simple farmer’s field can be one of the most striking fall locations! And as a country girl, this is often my favourite! The open sky, tall grasses, and scattered trees create a peaceful, timeless setting. The golden tones of the field complement the autumn leaves perfectly, especially during golden hour!
Fields like this allow for wide shots that capture the vastness of the season. They also provide a blank canvas where couples can stand out against the natural colours, making the photos feel intimate and expansive at the same time.
Please make sure you get permission before you wander onto a property! :) If you don't know someone personally with a field, I can help you out!

Bonus Tip:
Consider bringing your pet along for added fun and personality to your photoshoot! I love animals and am up for the challenge of having them included in any way that you would like!
Looking Ahead to Winter Sessions
If you missed the chance to book a fall photoshoot at one of my favourite fall photoshoot locations near Guelph, there is still some availability before Christmas. The first snowfall has arrived, and with it comes a fresh excitement for winter photography. Snow-covered landscapes, frosty trees, and soft winter light offer a new set of opportunities for beautiful photos.
Winter sessions tend to be cozy and intimate, with warm clothing and seasonal props adding charm. Whether it’s engagement photos, family portraits, or holiday cards, the winter season brings a different kind of magic! :)
