Woo hoo sunny February is here!

Winter weddings and family photoshoots bring a unique charm that few other seasons can match. The crisp air, fresh snow, and soft natural light create a setting that feels almost magical. I recently had the joy of photographing a stunning winter wedding in January, surrounded by fluffy snow and beautiful scenery. This experience reminded me why winter sessions are so special, even if the cold can be a challenge.

To celebrate this season, I’m offering 20% off outdoor family sessions in Guelph until the end of March! If you’re ready to brave the cold and capture your own winter memories, now is the perfect time!

Why Choose a Winter Wedding or Family Photoshoot

Winter weddings and family photoshoots offer a fresh take on traditional photography. The snow acts like a natural reflector, bouncing light and creating a soft glow that enhances every shot. The landscape transforms into a white canvas, making colours pop and adding depth to your photos.

For example, during a recent wedding in Drayton, the snow-covered trees and a charming brick house provided a perfect backdrop. The couple and their guests were feeling adventurous, walking through the snow and enjoying the crisp air! Their excitement and warmth showed in every photo, making the images feel genuine and full of life!

Winter sessions also encourage creativity. Scarves, hats, and cozy layers add texture and interest to photos. Plus, the contrast between warm clothing and cold surroundings tells a story of togetherness and comfort.

Tips for a Successful Winter Photoshoot

If you’re considering a Guelph photoshoot with me this winter, here are some tips to make the most of your session:

  • Dress in layers: Wear warm clothes that you can add or remove easily. This helps you stay comfortable and gives variety to your photos.

  • Choose the right time: The best light for winter photos is usually mid-morning or late afternoon when the sun is low and soft.

  • Prepare for the cold: Bring hand warmers and hot drinks to stay cozy between shots.

  • Embrace the snow: Don’t be afraid to walk through the snow or play in it. Movement adds energy and fun to your photos.

  • Plan your location: Look for spots with interesting winter features like snow-covered trees, frozen ponds, or rustic buildings. I can also offer suggestions as I have many favourite locations!

What I have been up to

January was a month of rest and reshfresh for me! The end of 2025 was full of festive fun and many photoshoots. So I enjoyed a few weeks of finishing up projects, working on all of the behind the scenes work that needs to be done for a business and I also gave myself permission to rest!

I even got to spend time with family in Ottawa! I loved skating the canal and hanging out with my wonderful sister and nieces and nephews!

Now February brings more sun and a new excitement for projects ahead! I am so excited for all of the weddings coming up in 2026 and am also beginning to book family sessions throughout the year too! Plenty of my 2026 couples are dreaming of a wintery engagement session and so it will be a fun month of capturing weddings and engagement sessions!
